Omar Khayyam

Omar Khayyam who was born in Nishapour is one of the great mathematician, astronomer, and poet of Iran in the late fifth and early sixth centuries.

Khayyam was known as one of the greatest scientists and had a great intelligence and strong memory. When he was young , he studied science and knowledge so that he reached a high level in philosophy, astronomy and mathematics, and he was professional  in medical , as he treated Sultan Sanjar, who was infected with smallpox at childhood.

Khayyam s poems are in both Farsi and Arabic language and wrote valuable books in various sciences. Khayyam was so famous , at that time great names as Imam, the philosopher and Hajjat al-Haq was given to him , Khayyam lived at the time of Seljuks, they ruled lands  from Khorasan to Kerman, Ray, Azerbaijan, and the countries of Rome, Iraq, Yemen and Persia.

Khayyam was an astrologer and the Iranian calendar is the result of his effort  and some other researcher which has done at the time of Jalaluddin Malik Shah Seljukhi, it named as Jalali calendar.

Khayyam also wrote a treatise on how to calculate astronomy. Khayyam was also specialist in philosophy, world history, linguistics, and jurisprudence. He taught science and philosophy in Greece and encouraged students to have physically and self-culture exercises . Therefore, many Sufis and mystics of that time felt close to him.
