Nach der Eroberung durch die Araber, war es Hauptstadt der Provinz Khorasan und ab dem Jahr 1118 fast vierjahrzehnte die Hauptstadt des seldjukischen Reiches. Mit dem \u00dcberfall der Mongolen im Jahr 1221 wurden gro\u00dfe Teile drt Stadt zerst\u00f6rt. Heute ist vor allem das Grab von&nbsp; \u201eAttar Neischaburi\u201c,&nbsp; eines der bedeutesten Sufisten und Dichter aus dem 11 Jahrhundert sehensw\u00fcrdig.&nbsp; Wenige Meter vom Mausleom entfernt liegt das Grab des persischen K\u00fcnstlers und Malers \u201eKamal ol-Molk\u201c. Kamal ol-Molk war Hofmaler am Ghajarenhof (19 Jhr.) . Er hatte einen Aufenthalt in Europa, er gilt als ein pr\u00e4gender Maler der iranischen Moderne.&nbsp; Eine weitere bedeutende Pers\u00f6nlichkeit, die in Neyschabur begraben ist, ist der iranische Dichter und Mathemaktiker Omar Khayyam, f\u00fcr den 1959 \u00f6stlich der Stadt ein modernes Mausoleum errichtet wurde.
