The National Theatre has cut its relationship with oil company Shell after expressing a “climate emergency”.
Shell has been valued and great supporters of the Theatre, the National Theatre said, but this relationship will come to an end in June 2020.
The theatre said: “evidence of calamitous environmental fall is growing ever clearer, from extreme weather events to wide-spreading extinction of species”.
They believed Theatre, like other industries, has an impact, we made temporary work; that makes use of raw materials, of heat, light, and sound and made people travel to a specific location at a specific time.
while we believe theatre can be the solution – we tell stories, shape culture and encourage empathy and understanding. Our theatre is created by inspiring people who are motivated to make a change.”
