Darakan in Fasa and New Discoveries

The head of the archeological survey board of Fasa city said: the study of the historical site of “Darakan Fasa” shows the basic foundation of the city in the Sassanid period and with a relatively rectangular plan.

Hamed Mehdi Alamdarloo, stating that the Darakan site of Fasa city will be studied by the Iranian Archaeological Board for a month, added: “A methodical study of the Darakan site of Fasa city with three objectives “Based on archaeological data and historical texts” and “Identification of residential periods in Darakan based on archaeological findings.”

Citing the public relations of Fars Cultural Heritage, Alamdarloo, pointing out that the identification of Darakan city area was done in 2009 by the Fasa city survey group headed by Ahmad Ali Asadi, added: the current study in order to better identify the site began in May and It will last for a month.

The head of the Archaeological Survey Board of Fasa city, said: This area is located near Darakoyeh village of Shashdeh and Qarabolagh section of Fasa city on the old road from Fasa to Darab.

The cities of communication between Fasa and Darab were in the early Islamic periods.

The archaeologist pointed out: However, the results of the study so far indicate that the original foundation of the city was formed or established in the Sassanid period with a relatively rectangular plan and checkered internal grid.

Alamdarloo said: “Preliminary information of the study shows that the city of Darakan is formed in two parts, north and south, on both sides of the river, and architectural works from the Sassanid and Islamic periods, as well as three aqueducts, can be seen on the site.”

Consequently, these new excavations have shed new and bright lights on this part of Fras Province and Iran’s history of the ancient times as well.
