Saint Mary Church in Shiraz is Being Restored

Saint Mary Church of Shiraz will be restored. The head of the General-Directorate of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts of Fars Province promised to provide funding for the completion of the restoration of the historic Church of Shiraz to follow up on the relevant matters.

Jamshid Moeini on the sidelines of the visit to Saint Mary Church in Shiraz, which was held at the invitation of the representative of the Christian leader in Shiraz and the presence of the Director-General of Culture and Islamic Guidance of Fars Province, said: To protect historical monuments and preventive measures to prevent the destruction of such monuments, Part of the roof of the Armenian (Persian Christians) in Shiraz, located in the Sang-e Siyah neighborhood, has been implemented with a credit of 1 billion four hundred and fifty million rials.

The head of Fars Cultural Heritage, also referring to the concerns of the head of the Armenian Association of Shiraz for the principled and timely restoration of the roof of the building, ordered that strict monitoring of the church restoration process and restoration work of Saint Mary Church will be completed before the end of this summer.

According to ISNA, the original building of the Holy Mary Church, located in the historical passage of the Sang-e Siyah of the historical context of Shiraz, was first built in 1662 AD.

One of the important points of the architecture of this historical building is that the exterior of the Saint Mary Church is rectangular and there is no evidence that this building is a church, but from the inside, the church hall is dome-shaped.

Its hall is one of the elegant ancient and artistic buildings of the 17th century. The ceiling painting is very beautiful and has special designs that are said to be unique and even unique in Iranian churches, and the plasterwork of this church can be considered a masterpiece of the 11th century.
