Omani officials plan to attract more tourists to the country by building the Oman Botanic Garden.
Oman Botanic Garden is a place where a collection of native and non-native plants is grown outdoors in greenhouses. Various fields of research depend on these gardens. Plant and horticulture, public education, and educating people about the importance of plants and the need to protect them.
According to ISNA, Omani officials will begin a $ 175 million project this month with the name of Oman Botanic Garden. What they are after is to attract more tourists to the country.
The project, which is being implemented in Muscat, the capital, will be completed by the end of 2023.
“The Botanical Garden of Oman will be one of the largest s in the world,” said Oman’s Minister of Heritage and Tourism.
“This place will provide visitors with an opportunity to get acquainted with Oman’s flowers and plants and learn more about the country’s agricultural heritage, rich cultural traditions, and legendary hospitality.”
Oman botanic garden, which will cover 423 hectares, will include ecological gardens, a visitor center, research and study centers, a play area for children, and more.
Tourism experts believe the garden is part of the Omani government’s plan to diversify its tourism destinations.
Currently, much of Oman’s tourism relies on Salalah, a city in the south of the country.
Oman attracted about 3.5 million tourists in 2019, 60% of whom visited Salalah.
However, the Corona epidemic reduced the number of tourists visiting Oman in 2020 to about 1.6 million. This statistic will reduce in 2021.
In response to the question of whether Oman has a practical initiative to resume the tourism industry in addition to the Oman Botanic Garden, the Minister of Tourism said that at the moment all our focus is on this project. Discussions on this issue should originate from inside Oman, and we support any project that benefits the country’s tourism.
