Windstar Cruises is installing SpaceX’s Starlink internet service across its fleet.
The Star Pride embarked on a recent Caribbean cruise with Starlink. The Star Legend will get the satellite-based WiFi service this spring, followed by the Wind Surf, Wind Star, and Star Breeze. Windstar hopes the installments to be completed on these ships by mid-2023.
The Wind Spirit will get the new technology as soon as it’s available in French Polynesia.
Currently, all Windstar Cruises use the geostationary satellite service Anuvu. The addition of Starlink technology will amplify Anuvu, delivering more dependable and faster internet to guests, Windstar said.
Windstar technology director Gregg Wagner said that “faster speeds will alleviate much of the frustration felt at peak use times.”
Starlink will be available on select Windstar voyages where the service is active; not all global destinations are available.
