On the southeast outside Shiraz, a tower-like building built of burnt brick attracts attraction this is the tomb of the last queen of the Atabak dynasty, who ruled Fars.
Concerning the history and founder of this building ancient and modern historians have written in conflicting terms, and it is not possible from these, statements to form a settled opinion.
Only what is written in the Rozat Us Safa in the fourth volume accords with the name and description of this building. He writes that Abesh Khatoon died in the year 687 AH (1288 A D.) in Tabriz and after a while, Princess Kurdochin, A daughter of the Atabak Abesh Khatun and Mangu Qa’an carried her body to Shiraz Since the building in style and appearance resembles the tomb of Uljaitu in Sultanieh and has been known from the past as Abesh Khatun, there is a strong probability that this was the same queen and that her tomb was constructed in the Moghul period.
Abesh Khatun was the last sovereign of the Atabak dynasty in Fars and was the wife of Mangu Qa’an, son of Hulagu the Moghul. She spent some of her time in Fars, and some in Azarbaijan, and according to the statement of Shiraznameh, she died in the year 685 AH (1286 A D) and according to the statement in the Habib Us Saiyyar two years later in Tabriz. Her daughter princess Kurdochin brought her to Shiraz, and made a mausoleum for her, and buried her there. The building is completely square, and each, side of it is 16.75 meters wide and it is 20 meters high.
