Mashhad Folk Music at Malek House

In the latest video released by the Iranian Tar project, Ali Ghamsari went to Malek’s house in Mashhad and played Mashhad Folk Music.

According to ISNA, this Iranian composer and musician have been on an artistic journey for some time. He intends to travel around Iran with his tar and has gone to Mashhad for his latest program Mashhad Folk Music. Ghamsari has played pieces of this type of music in his 26th performance program.

Ghamsari wrote along with the release of his performance video in Mashhad:

“Iranian Tar 26 (Mashhad, Malek House)

Mashhad Folk Music is a happy tune and so amusing; Because they do not mourn the shortcomings, we celebrate what we have.

The sad conditions in Mashhad have it hard for musicians to grow their potentials. Music is likely to be forbidden there. So I planed a performance for the youth. My goal was to give directions to the loved ones from the seventies and eighties who have a lot of energy and freshness but are stuck behind ideological barriers like a roaring river.

The same Mashhad Folk Music performance, once called a concert, can not be seen in Mashhad. Praise to those members of this group who are keeping the maqami and folk music of Khorasan alive. I just assume that my very best moment was in the hands of the percussionist, who did not hesitate to create the best atmosphere. I appreciate all the efforts of the members of this group. They made the impossible possible.

What we played was a Piece of Mashhad Folk Music named: Gol Andam (Music of North Khorasan)

“Special thanks to Yalda Abbasi, the leader of this young group, who, despite not being in Iran, fully managed this association and played a very effective role in shaping this cooperation.”

Ali Ghamsari chooses a historical site of a city in Iran and plays the folk tunes of that region to preserve this type of music.
