Several large festivals are taking place in Germany this summer, apart from the popular Oktoberfest in Munich.
Rheingau Wine Festival in Wiesbaden, August 11-20
Fritzi Luca of the West Coast German National Tourist Office says Wiesbaden’s Schlossplatz, the festival venue in front of the Marktkirche and the Dern’sche grounds is going to be transformed into a wine lover’s dream. This 10-day festival will feature more than 100 booths, three stages for musical concerts, and a Rheingau wine tasting at what is described as the longest wine counter in the world.
Rhine In Flames at Spay-Koblenz, August 13, Oberwesel September 9 and St Goar September 16
The festival will surround convoys of 75 decorated ships, which will sail down the River Rhine in Rhineland-Palatinate state and stop along the banks for parties. On the river banks, villages, castles, cultural attractions, and parks will celebrate the occasion with music, lights, and fireworks displays. Attendees will furthermore enjoy music concerts along the Rhine.
Festival-Medieval in Bavaria, September 9-October 9
Selb in the district of Wunsiedel and the Borderland campsites in Heidelheim, Bavaria, will host the largest overnight medieval music festival in Europe, featuring a music program, fire artists, historical theatre, large markets, bow tournaments, workshops, and entertainment. The aim is to educate festivalgoers on the traditions of the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and the early Baroque period.
Reeperbahn Festival, Hamburg, September 20-23
There will be over 350 live concerts during the four-day festival in and around the St Pauli district in Hamburg, This festival will combine a line-up of new, international talent with progressive music. Musical performances and art exhibitions will be held at venues ranging from underground clubs and bars to the Imperial Theatre, School Museum, and St Pauli Church.
Cannstatter Volksfest in Stuttgart, September 22-October 8
This year, the 176Th Cannstatter Volksfest will be hosted in Stuttgart. It’s one of Europe’s largest funfairs, with rides, colorful parades, and haunted houses. Food stalls will sell regional specialties, German beer, and wine.
