Sweden’s Göteborg Film Festival

The winner takes it all! That is what the Swedish Film making company has arranged for one movie lover that gets to be so lucky as to have a weeklong date with movies. While 2021 is shaping up to be yet another year jam-packed with virtual events, Sweden’s Göteborg Film Festival is presenting an exclusive one-person experience to make everything ready for a weeklong stay on a remote island.

The Göteborg Film Festival will be a virtual event for everyone if they want to attend. However, the planners had this idea in mind to create what they called “The Isolated Cinema experience” for one lucky movie lover.

“The Chosen One”, the film fanatic will be transported by boat to the Swedish island of Pater Noster, during the festival. Upon arrival, they will be given supplies for their stay in the former lighthouse keeper’s home, which includes food and all the films from the festival.

That one lucky lone cinema enthusiast, however, cannot bring a phone, laptop, not even one single book. Perhaps these are all called distractions. The artistic director for the Göteborg Film Festival, Jonas Holmberg said that the idea to through “The Isolated Cinema” raised from how people have been using films for comfort during the pandemic.

Although the festival planners have this distraction-free environment in mind, the winner is allowed to keep a video diary detailing their journey for people around the globe, just to keep them up with how things are going and to evaluate this experience. Besides, for safety measures, another person will be there on the island, but they’ll keep their distance.

Applications are open now through Jan. 17, 2021, and the trip itself will take place between Jan. 30 and Feb. 6, 2021.
